MOT testers record visibility problems in free text: windscreen cracks or chips in the swept area, wiper blades not clearing, washer jets blocked, and sometimes mirror condition. Our classifier places those comments in the visibility and glazing category and can separate wiper-related wording from windscreen glass when the text allows.
Wipers versus windscreen on the map
Location rules send wiper mentions toward the wipers area on the inspection model and screen or chip language toward the windscreen area. Mixed lines follow the best keyword match from the MOT comment. If the record is too vague to place, the finding may remain unmapped with a clear reason.
A chip noted years ago may have been repaired or spread since. A pass on the latest MOT does not prove the glass is flawless now. Treat visibility findings as dated prompts for what to look at in daylight.
Using a registration lookup
Run the registration above. Visibility findings feed preview marked-area counts when present. The buyer report shows quotes, pattern labels if recurrence or disappearance applies, and seller questions you can copy before a viewing.
- Check wiper rubbers, washer spray, and screen condition in person — MOT wording ages quickly.
- Headlamp defects are a separate lighting category; see the headlights MOT guide for beam issues.
- We do not replace a glass specialist inspection for large cracks.
What we do not claim
Car Buyer Check does not measure chip size against MOT limits from a registration alone. We surface what testers wrote. Insurance windscreen cover and repair quotes are outside this product.
